Megaport Products Overview

This topic introduces the products and services available on the Megaport network. For an introduction to the Megaport network itself, see Introducing Megaport.

There’s a simple pattern to how these products fit together:

  1. Get on the Megaport Network – Create a Port, Megaport Cloud Router (MCR), or Megaport Virtual Edge (MVE) as your general-purpose entry point onto the Megaport network. If you need devices in a private network to reach the internet without exposing individual public IP addresses, provision a Megaport NAT Gateway (NAT Gateway) as another entry point instead.
  2. Connect – Deploy a Virtual Cross Connect (VXC) from your entry point to wherever you need to go. Browse the Megaport Marketplace to find service providers already on the network.
  3. Go anywhere – Use the VXC to reach cloud regions, the public internet, internet exchanges, or Megaport Object Storage, Megaport’s Storage offering. For cloud service provider connectivity, see Cloud Connectivity.

Megaport also offers Compute, on-demand CPU and GPU access through the same Latitude.sh platform that powers Megaport Object Storage. For more information, see Megaport Compute.

Products

Megaport offers these products:

  • Port – High-speed Ethernet interface that connects to the Megaport network, available in a range of capacities depending on the location and Port type.
  • Virtual Cross Connect (VXC) – Connection between any two endpoints on the Megaport network. Most connections support capacity ranging from 1 Mbps to several Gbps. Higher-capacity Ports in some metros can support much greater speeds, depending on the network configuration.
  • Megaport Cloud Router (MCR) – Virtual router for on-demand, private, Layer 3 connectivity to service providers between key global routing zones.
  • Megaport Virtual Edge (MVE) – On-demand Network Functions Virtualization service that supports branch-to-cloud connectivity on the Megaport SDN. MVE provides the edge-computing framework to deploy SD-WAN gateways, virtual routers, and integrated transit gateways.
  • Internet Exchange (IX) – Connect to content and services across multiple regions, exchanging traffic directly and reducing bandwidth usage on client internet connections.
  • Megaport Internet – A scalable, on-demand service that allows you to connect to the internet from Ports, MCRs, and MVEs. As part of the MVE provisioning, you create a Megaport Internet connection to provide connectivity and to allow MVE to register and communicate with the SD-WAN overlay network.
  • Megaport Object Storage – S3-compatible object storage provisioned on Latitude.sh and connected to the Megaport network through a dedicated VXC.
  • Megaport NAT Gateway (NAT Gateway) – A NAT service that enables devices in a private network to access the internet without requiring each device to have a public IP address.
  • Megaport Marketplace – An online hub where global service providers and enterprise customers interconnect, so you can connect to a broad range of internet services, cloud providers, and managed services.
