11:11 Systems

The benefits of direct connectivity to the services you need:

  • Secure, private connectivity throughout Megaport’s redundant network infrastructure. Your traffic will not transit the public internet.
  • High performance and predictability of your network.
  • Improved data and operational security.
  • Flexible and scalable cloud networking options.
  • Consistent connectivity while scaling bandwidth to and from 11:11 Systems. This means no downtime when you need to change your Virtual Cross Connect (VXC) speed.
  • Connect to multiple regions from a single interconnection point, which leverages multi-region redundancy at a fraction of the cost.

How it works

11:11 Systems Cloud services consist of physical network connections at 11:11 Systems Megaport-enabled Connected Hubs in the US, Canada, and Europe that are connected to the Megaport Global Network.

Physical optical connections (NNIsAn interface between two networks. Technically used as distinct from UNI to define an interface between provider networks but sometimes used interchangeably between provider and customer network handoffs (Definition: MEF).
) at each location between Megaport and 11:11 Systems are established to 11:11 Systems infrastructure. These physical connections are maintained between 11:11 Systems and Megaport.

Ports and Virtual Cross Connects (VXCs) connect to the Megaport-enabled locations and establish interconnectivity to cloud services. You can choose from 1 or 10 Gbps dedicated ports and VXCs with a scalable rate limit, configurable up to the maximum port size. Shared ports are also available for customers with bandwidth requirements up to 500 Mbps. (100 Gbps ports are not currently available at 11:11 Systems Connected Hubs.)

11:11 Systems Cloud services offers these connectivity options:

  • Use a Megaport account and the Megaport Marketplace to establish connectivity through Ports from Megaport-enabled data centers with VXCs to 11:11 Systems Cloud services at 11:11 Systems Connected Hubs.

  • 11:11 Systems establishes Ports from 11:11 Systems Connected Hubs with VXCs to consume resources from 3rd-party cloud providers.

Once a Layer 2Layer 2 of the OSI model is the data link layer. This provides node-to-node data transfer (a link between two directly connected nodes). Most Megaport Virtual Cross Connects (VXCs) operate at this layer. Layer 2 is divided into Media Access Control (MAC) layer (controls how devices in a network gain access to medium and permission to transmit), and Logical Link Control (LLC) layer (responsible for identifying network layer protocols and then encapsulating them and controls error checking and frame synchronization).
VXC connection deploys to a cloud service, a single connection is assigned with Layer 3Layer 3 of the OSI model is the network layer. It translates logical network address into physical machine address (IP addressing). Layer 3 routers analyze traffic based on address details and forward appropriately, requiring knowledge of the details generally exchanged in BGP sessions for routing table exchanges.

Setting up connectivity to a 11:11 Systems Cloud Service with Cloud

To create a connection from a Megaport Port to a 11:11 Systems Cloud service, you need a service key. A service key includes the essential configuration details for your business and automates much of the configuration process. 11:11 Systems generates the service key.

For Managed Cloud Service customers, 11:11 Systems uses the service key to set up the VXCs and create the connections.

If you prefer, you can create the connection to 11:11 Systems Cloud Service with the following procedure.

To create a connection to 11:11 Systems Cloud Service in the Megaport Portal

  1. Contact 11:11 Systems to obtain a service key.

    Note

When you use the service key created by 11:11 Systems, you are responsible for any VXC charges.

  2. In the Megaport Portal, go to the Services page.
If you don’t have a Megaport account, see Setting Up a Megaport Account.

  3. Select the Port for the connection and click +Connection.
  4. Click Enter Service Key and click Next.
    New connection
  5. Enter the service key provided by 11:11 Systems in the Megaport Service Key ID field.
    Megaport validates the key.
Data including VLAN ID, speed, and 11:11 Systems location are included in the key and populate automatically. For more information on using a service key, see Creating a VXC with a service key.

    11:11 Systems connection details

  6. Click Next.

  7. Specify the connection details:

    • Connection Name – The name of your VXC to be shown in the Megaport Portal.

    • Service Level Reference (optional) – Specify a unique identifying number for your Megaport service to be used for billing purposes, such as a cost center number, unique customer ID, or purchase order number. The service level reference number appears for each service under the Product section of the invoice. You can also edit this field for an existing service.
Use this field for the SNT code.

    • Rate Limit – The speed of your connection in Mbps. Specify a speed for your connection in Mbps, up to the maximum allowable based on the maximum limit defined by the service key.

    • VXC State – Select Enabled or Shut Down to define the initial state of the connection. For more information, see Shutting Down a VXC for Failover Testing.

      Note

If you select Shut Down, traffic will not flow through this service and it will behave as if it was down on the Megaport network. Billing for this service will remain active and you will still be charged for this connection.

    • Preferred B-End VLAN (optional) – Specify an unused VLAN ID for this connection. This must be a unique VLAN ID on this port and can range from 2 to 4093. If you specify a VLAN ID that is already in use, the system displays the next available VLAN number. The VLAN ID must be unique to proceed with the order. If you do not specify a value, Megaport will assign one.

      Note

The B-End VLAN (11:11 Systems VLAN ID) for the provider-side termination will be automatically populated based on the service key. Alternatively, you can click Untag to remove the VLAN tagging for this connection. The untagged option limits you to having only one VXC deployed on this port. You must use untagged VLANs if you are creating a MACsec connection.

    • Minimum Term – Select No Minimum Term, 12 Months, 24 Months, or 36 Months. Longer terms result in a lower monthly rate. 12 Months is selected by default.
Take note of the information on the screen to avoid early termination fees (ETF). For more information, see VXC Pricing and Contract Terms and VXC, Megaport Internet, and IX Billing.

    • Resource Tags – You can use resource tags to add your own reference metadata to a Megaport service.
      To add a tag:

      1. Click Add Tags.
      2. Click Add New Tag.
      3. Enter details into the fields:
        • Key – string maximum length 128. Valid values are a-z 0-9 _ : . / \ -
        • Value – string maximum length 256. Valid values are a-z A-Z 0-9 _ : . @ / + \ - (space)
      4. Click Save.

If you already have resource tags for that service, you can manage them by clicking Manage Tags.

      Warning

Never include sensitive information in a resource tag. Sensitive information includes commands that return existing tag definitions and information that will identify a person or company.
