Megaport On-ramp as a Service

Megaport On-ramp as a Service (OaaS) is purpose-built for service providers to deliver private, dedicated connectivity to their end customers, helping them meet stringent security and compliance requirements.

With Megaport OaaS, the entire process is fully automated. A virtual LAN (VLANA partitioned and isolated computer network at the data link layer (OSI Layer 2) on a single physical interface (for example, a Port) used to subdivide a network. LAN is an abbreviation of local area network.
) is created automatically, IP addresses are assigned, Border Gateway Protocol (BGPBorder Gateway Protocol (BGP) is a standardized routing protocol designed to exchange route and reachability information among autonomous systems (AS) on the internet.
) peering details are generated, and traffic is secured end-to-end. Megaport OaaS eliminates the manual back-and-forth of service key exchanges and removes the need for additional development effort from service providers.

By bypassing the risks of the public internet, Megaport OaaS provides a more secure, compliant, and reliable alternative for accessing mission-critical Software as a Service (SaaSSoftware as a Service (SaaS) is a form of cloud computing in which the provider offers the use of application software to a client and manages all the physical and software resources used by the application. SaaS is sometimes referred to as “on-demand software” and is usually priced on a pay-per-use basis or using a subscription fee.
) applications, transporting sensitive data, and connecting to Security Service Edge (SSE) solutions, without the delays or complexity of manual provisioning.

Who is it for?

Megaport OaaS is suitable for a wide range of service providers, including SSE and Secure Access Service Edge (SASESecure Access Service Edge (SASE) is a security framework combining security and network connectivity technologies into a single cloud-delivered platform to enable secure and fast cloud transformation.
) providers, storage providers, and any SaaS application providers delivering services to end customers.

It is also well-suited for telco providers that need to deliver SSE, SASE, storage, and other SaaS services to their customers.

The following network diagram shows how service providers integrate their services into the Megaport network fabric using Megaport OaaS.

Key benefits of Megaport OaaS

Megaport OaaS provides a platform for service providers to offer automated, secure, and private connectivity to cloud environments.

Traditional connectivity methods often depend on expensive, fixed-capacity leased lines or expose traffic to the public internet, lacking the sophisticated automation found in hyperscaler private on-ramps. As a result, service providers’ customers are frequently pushed into manual, non-standardized connection processes.

Megaport OaaS addresses this challenge by enabling service providers to deliver hyperscaler-level on-ramp automation without requiring internal development resources. The key benefits are summarized below.

  • Private on-ramp – Provide private, direct connectivity to cloud environments. Eliminate the need for service providers to build and maintain their own on-ramp infrastructure or dedicate resources to connection automation.

  • Automated provisioning – Facilitate the rapid, automated configuration of network elements. Automatically generate VLAN, IP address assignments, and Border BGP peering details within minutes, resulting in the delays and complexity of manual coordination or service key exchange processes.

  • Secure transport – Offer a secure, dedicated path for data transport that bypasses the public internet. Enable secure transport without requiring the engineering of Virtual Private Network (VPNExtends a private network across a public network or internet. It enables users to send and receive data across shared or public networks as if their computing devices were directly connected to the private network. VPNs can provide functionality, security and/or network management benefits to the user.
)/(IPsecInternet Protocol Security (IPsec) is a secure network protocol suite for Internet Protocol (IP) communications that works by authenticating and encrypting packets of data in a communication session. It provides secure encrypted communication between two computers over an Internet Protocol network and is used in virtual private networks.
) tunnels or the capital investment in dedicated private circuits.

  • Global reach – Extend network connectivity using the existing Megaport infrastructure. Allow service providers to establish connectivity in geographical regions where they lack a physical network footprint, providing a stable alternative to the public internet for global interconnection.

Ordering Megaport OaaS

Below is a step-by-step workflow that describes how to order a Megaport OaaS.

  1. Contact your Megaport Account Manager to discuss the technical details. These requirements will then be evaluated by a Megaport Technical Account Manager (TAM) to determine feasibility, the final delivery timeline, and the total cost.

  2. After you and Megaport have agreed on the proposed solution, your Megaport Account Manager will provide a Manual Service Order (MSO) form for your review and acceptance of the pricing and terms and conditions.

  3. After the MSO is signed, Megaport will place the order and send the relevant connectivity information to the service provider.
