# Extreme IX Overview

> This help topic provides an overview of Extreme IX, a carrier-neutral internet exchange in India that is now part of Megaport.

Extreme IX is a carrier-neutral, data-center-neutral internet exchange (IX) built for internet service providers (ISPs) in India, and for local and international content providers.

Extreme IX accepts any network operator with an Autonomous System Number (ASN), assigned IP address space, and an open peering policy. Extreme Infocom Pvt. Ltd., an India-based internet infrastructure operator now owned by Megaport, operates and maintains the exchange.

## Mission and ecosystem

The Extreme IX engineering and operations team drives internet peering adoption across India through community education, technical enablement, and infrastructure development. Extreme IX aims to strengthen the local ISP ecosystem by increasing local traffic exchange and helping network operators reach a target ratio of 1:10 transit to peering traffic.
